Technology and Innovation Centre

MORE KNOWLEDGE. BETTER SOLUTIONS.

Continuous product advancement is a basic requirement for competing in the global environment. By opening a Technology and Innovation Centre in November 2007, Novelis extended their research and development activities in the Göttingen plan even further.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT – for Novelis the most important requirement for remaining competitive in the long term. As a logical consequence, a technology and innovation centre was created with an investment of 2.4 million Euros.

This high-tech centre, one of three laboratories operated by Novelis in Europe, specialised in the support of research and development for customers of Novelis Europe. The core competency at Göttingen lies in the development of aluminium for the lithographic printing process and the food and beverage can industry, as well as coated aluminium sheets for a number of end-user applications.

With new high-tech facilities, we can implement the innovative ideas of scientists and technologists in the Göttingen plant very quickly; and we can respond even faster to developments in the market. The future of the Göttingen operation as a specialist for rolled aluminium products is assured through its integration in a global technology network with locations in Sierre (Switzerland), Dudelange (Luxembourg), Kingston (Canada) and Ulsan (South Korea). The high demands of ongoing product development require specialist knowledge.

At the science and research hub of Göttingen, innovative partnerships with the University of Göttingen and other educational and technical institutions in the region form an effective platform for the active transfer of knowledge. The assurance of new generations of scientists is also promoted through co-operations with secondary schools and the NiedersachsenMetall Foundation.

With a special coil-to-coil line, our engineers in the Technology and Innovation Centre Göttingen can quickly realise Novelis’ new product ideas.

Value-adding projects can thus be made available to our customers faster than ever before.
